For 69 years Hoskins has been a seafood and country cooking favorite among North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina locals and tourists. Founded by Hubert and Leona Hoskins in 1948, Hoskins is now owned and operated by their granddaughter, Tina, and her husband, Lenton Yates, who are natives of North Myrtle Beach.
Hoskins Restaurant is located at 450 Main Street— a short walk for many plenty of North Myrtle Beach Real Estate—is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Though the long line outside might discourage some strangers away, the locals know that it’s worth the wait and the wait is actually not all that long. When you’re standing in line daydreaming about their down-home country cooking, homemade barbecue, fresh seafood and out-of-this-world desserts, you may not even remember standing in a line once you’re seated in a cozy table in the dining room.
The Southern fare is quite reputable because of Hoskin’s cook, Ollie Pearl Gore, who has only missed one day of work in 21 years of working there. She’s acclaimed for her Southern specialties including okra, lima beans, and potato salad. Of course, breakfast includes shrimp and grits and buttery biscuits. At lunch, sandwiches such as BLTs and the scallop sandwich are raved about. The bone-in flounder and crispy fried fish keep seafood lovers coming back for more. But, it’s her desserts that really wow the customers. Daily specials may include peanut butter pies, coconut cream pies and pineapple pies. With huge portions and delicious fresh meals, who really cares if there is a line!
