One of the most exceptional parks in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the Heritage Shores Nature Preserve is located on an island that reaches into the Cherry Grove march and offers a mile-long roundtrip boardwalk through a brilliant ecosystem. Those living in nearby North Myrtle Beach real estate can reach the preserve easily by foot. There are seven acres of walking paths including elevated boardwalks and observation docks. Preserved in its native state, there are signs throughout describing the plants, animals, fish, and birds that may be spotted.
Bird watchers will be pleased to see great egrets, pelicans, and blue herons. Occasionally, osprey, barred owls, and hawks have been witnessed. Fishing at the preserve may find you striped mullet, winter flounder, and Atlantic croaker. Plants such as the sour cherry tree—Cherry Grove’s namesake—wax myrtle, Yaupon Holly, and red cedar are home in the preserve.
As for animals, in the forest you may come upon white tail deer, red foxes, and raccoons. In the marsh, crabs, mussels, oysters, snails, and mud hoppers abound. Don’t be surprised to catch sight of a bottle-nosed dolphin.
Leashed dogs are welcome in the preserve. There is a boating dock there, so you are able to reach the preserve by boat. Scenic picnic areas overlook the inlet and the ocean. The Nature Preserve is located at the end of 53rd Avenue N next to the Cherry Grove Boat Ramp.
